Meghann Michalsky (she/her) is an independent choreographer, dancer, educator, producer, and filmmaker based in Calgary. She creates highly visceral work rooted in intense physicality and an ongoing exploration of risk and abandonment. Her movement aesthetic invites women to move with grounded strength and an undulating spine. Her choreography has been presented nationally and internationally, including at The Banff Centre, Dance Made in Canada, Chutzpah! Festival, New Dance Horizons, Fluid Festival, and Helsinki, Finland.

Exile
Exile, is a new contemporary dance work by Alberta choreographer Meghann Michalsky.
The boundaries of her primal and rigorous movement signature are pushed to their limit to delve into themes of mass unity, euphoric groove, riotous energy, and surrender.
The work grows from Michalsky’s personal journey where wind and water have been a source of salvation.
Set in a world where water and wind are both scarce and sacred, Exile serves as a contemporary reflection on displacement, resilience, and transformation.
The ritual does not end.
----
Exile has an interactive set where the dancers inhabit scaffolding, 2 glass water troughs, and we work with 5 industrial fans.
This work was selected for the Banff Centre for the Arts Final Tuning residency program – we reiecevd three weeks of theatre support to create Exile. We premiered it there in February 2025.
